Purpose: To celebrate the graduation of Splatsin and Okanagan Indian Band members who have completed the course and to introduce the White Buffalo First Nations Business Development Cooperative.
Splatsin and Thompson Rivers University School of Business and Economics proudly announces the Graduation Ceremony of the First Nations Business Development course that was recently completed with participants from Splatsin and Okanagan Indian Bands. The course ran for 15 weeks and prepared 20 Indigenous community members to start new businesses in tourism, welding and fabrication, handmade artisan crafts such as beading, wellness, e-bikes, towing, recycling, campgrounds, teaching and storytelling, and Indigenous culture and crafts to youth.
Following completion of the course several of the participants decided to create the White Buffalo First Nations Business Development Cooperative to provide a forum to support each other as they launch their businesses, to support fund raising to generate business start up revenues, and to publicize their ongoing work. The Cooperative exists to encourage and support First Nation, Metis, and Inuit individuals and groups to follow their dreams and create their own business enterprises.
Splatsin, and Thompson Rivers University School of Business and Economics and the White Buffalo First Nations Business Development Cooperative invite the media to attend the Graduation Ceremony at the Splatsin Community Centre on August 6th from 10 to 1 pm.
